So with a quick stop in Paso Robels on a California Road Trip I stopped in at a winery tasting room that has always been an all star crowd pleaser. Herman Story wines is one of those wineries that are checking all the right boxes in the business. The winery comes off as one of those playful brands steering away from the old trends that plague our industry.
The most important part of the wines though is the fact they are some of the heaviest hitting power house wines. If the location of Paso is on your map you already know the majority of the wines coming out of this area are matched with intense fruit and a very rich baked pie qualities. Russell (the wine maker) in Spinal Tap fashion turn it up to 11. I'm familiar with the Syrahs, Cabs, Grenaches, and even their Milk and Honey (a tempranillo based blend) . The wines are unapollageticly high alchol and come into your glass with a thick opaque deep liquid gold.
Hermany story makes some power house, inky, lucious wines so when I made it the tasting room and discovered a rose I had to see how the wine making practices translate to a wine typically associated with being a lean patio crusher. No disapointment here though the wine perfectly balanced that big juicy fruity Paso, Herman Story Style and had a learner acid that what I expected. Shared in the Air B&B with family.
