Picpoul de Pinet

Alright first blog post ever. Were kicking it off with a very affordable bottle of wine I came across at my local Trader Joe's. Picoul de Pinet is one of those wine regions I've had on a flash card but never really had a sense of place written in my mind on what the wine may be. So for something I shocking have never seen on a restaurant list but have heard whispers of it's existence look no further then your budget white wine section of Trader Joe's.

First lets break down the region:

The largest region associated with Picpoul is Lauguedoc. Lauguedoc is a region just west of the Rhone Valley in south east France. The region is separated by a salt water lake Etang de Thau from the Mediterranean Ocean. The region is based upon the grape known as Picpoul which is a Occitan name, and is centered around the village of Pinet. So boom there you have it the name, Picoul de Pinet!

Picoul de Pinet is one of the newer AOC's of the Lauguedoc AOC. The region was elevated from a sub region of the larger Lauguedoc AOC. The region is largely a collection of Co-op based producers, but hey you have to have friends if you wanna make it on the streets.

Overall review

Not much to say about this guy. Its a light patio crusher and it's defiantly not breaking the bank. I picked it up and shared a bottle while cooking barbecuing, easiest decision I ever made. If I head back in to pick up Trader Joe's essentials I could see another one of these bad boys slipping into by cart. Pairing wise it's going to be hard to miss on this one. Safe option with any seafood or vegetable dish. Admittedly I drank it all on its own and it served as a cocktail wine for me. But the wine has a little bit of everything, acid, texture, fruit, citrus, 1 out of crush would crush again.
